Annapolis Boat Show
Donors/Volunteers/Sponsors
2006-AN EXCITING SEASON
Operating multiple weekly Daysails on
Geist Reservoir, Indianapolis & Lake Monroe, Bloomington, HoS had 450
participants so far - a 400% growth in the number of children we served
in 2006 over 2005! We anticipate
growing by over 600% in 2007, increasing to 12 Chapter locations. With an
innovative program, Rosie Sails the High Seas, HoS expanded its
therapeutic services and activities to further improve motor and social skills
of participants. Read more about this
collaboration with Agape Therapeutic Riding Center next. Another exciting development was additional
media coverage, with a 500% increase in magazine, newspaper, Web and
television exposure in 2006 over 2005.
2006 was a year of growth, and HoS is now focusing on fundraising and
establishing new chapters!

ROSIE SAILS THE HIGH SEAS
Participants Groom Rosie,
the Miniature Horse
Each Wednesday, in a new collaboration with Agape
Therapetuic Riding Center of Cicero, IN, we offered a program called Rosie Sails the High Seas. Up to 20
participants weekly arrived at the BellaVita courtesy docks at Geist.
While one group sailed, the other group joined the staff of Agape at a nearby
park in a variety of therapeutic activities with miniature horses. After
meeting together at noon for lunch, provided by Kroger, the groups switched
activities. We hope to continue this successful program next year. MANY
THANKS to the management, staff & volunteers of Agape, as well as:
Steven and Deborah Ramos, the Cambridge neighborhood association, Guy Konkle,
Keith Taylor, Todd Braken and Lori Wylie.

MEDIA SPOTLIGHT!
HoS received more media coverage
this year, including interviews by Dick Wolfsie on WISH-TV in Indianapolis, and
a special appearance on WTIU in Bloomington.
We made the front page with
articles in Bloomington’s The Herald
Times, Fishers Weekly, The Columbian Magazine and 2 entries in the Baytown Sun regarding our program launch
in the Houston area! Features in
@Geist.com, The Sand Paper in Long Beach, New Jersey as well as Offshore
Sailing Magazine and The Atlantic Press helped bring more attention
to HoS. This exposure has generated
interest from parents and mental health professionals; increasing the
number of participants we were able to serve this year. It also brought new
volunteers and opportunities in new locations. Former participants enthusiastically sharing HoS with others also contributed
to the incredible growth we experienced
this year. Keep
spreading the word! Read the articles

NATIONAL EXPANSION!!!
From our humble beginnings last year establishing 2 locations in Indiana, we have now hosted Special Daysails from Baytown (Houston), Texas on the Galveston Bay, Seattle, Washington, and Long Beach, New Jersey, where we were received warmly and shown fantastic hospitality. We are now working with Surf City Yacht Club in NJ, with volunteer Andy Matthews to establish a chapter for 2007. Surf City Yacht Club and Commodore Jim Coughlin have been instrumental in helping establishing the new chapter there, and we truly appreciate their assistance. Executive Director, George Saidah, is traveling to Seattle, Washington this month for another Daysail and to work on establishing a chapter there. He will then host events in Bellingham, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. At the end of October he will visit Dana Point, CA for an inaugural event to establish a new chapter, then in November return to Baytown for additional Daysails! George has plans to expand even more in 2007, with sites at Table Rock Lake in Branson/Springfield Missouri, as well as Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, WA, and East Coast and Great Lakes locations.

Paula, from Dana Point, CA is providing her 27’ Morgan for use in the premiere season launch for the southern California region. with such generous support we can continue our sailing programs and expand our regions!

ANNAPOLIS BOAT SHOW
We attended the Sail Only Boat Show in Annapolis Maryland October 6-8 and networked with representatives of manufacturers including Hunter, Dufour, Beneteau, Colgate, Fontaine Pageau, West Marine, Sun Sail, and RayMarine to seek sponsorship and equipment. Ideally, HoS will be able to negotiate a deal to acquire sailboats such as the Hunter 216, which has the perfect size cockpit for our program. If we are able to build a fleet of same-type boats, we will be able to get a better deal from the manufacturer, improve consistency and performance, as well as reduce maintenance costs. You can help – write the companies to encourage them to support Heart of Sailing. The public’s endorsement can be critical!
